Enchanted Learning is an excellent example of how educational resources can be presented in an appealing and child-friendly format. Similar to an online encyclopaedia, there is a wealth of information on almost every imaginable topic, making it the ideal introduction for children of all ages to the internet.
Designed specifically for children, colourful fonts and graphics abound creating an instantly appealing environment for children to explore. With a myriad of links to information and activities including art and craft, animals, astronomy, marine life, science, geography and history, not to mention a vast array of printable information sheets, puzzles and colouring pages, there’s plenty here to keep children entertained and engaged throughout primary school. Admittedly navigation isn’t exactly intuitive with links presented in a haphazard unstructured format so using the A-Z site index or search facility is advisable to minimise time spent looking for information and activities.
On the downside the site’s banner-ads can prove a distraction and annoyance at times but access to an ad-free version is available on paying a $20 annual subscription. In addition there is a noticeable American bias in some of the content, which is not necessarily a negative aspect as teachers can easily adopt activities and projects for individual classroom use.
