To quote from the website www.iste.org, ISTE is the premier membership association for educators and education leaders engaged in improving learning and teaching by advancing the effective use of technology in PK-12 and teacher education. One of the great free resources for schools from Microsoft is Live@edu. This is a cloud-based service and it allows teachers and schools to deploy a full e-mail, calendar, tasks and office tools without the need for any software installation. As it is a cloud-based service it is accessible anywhere and at any time and can be used collaboratively to share documents, PowerPoint presentations, calendars etc. The Outlook web app…

Summer Fun!

In my last post I looked at some Web 2.0 resources and said I would continue with some others. But as it’s holiday time I abandoned that idea and instead decided to focus on something for the holidays! Whether you are travelling far afield or staying put in Ireland this little device will make your holiday memories special. This is the Veho Muvi – the smallest video camera around. So…

Muvizu

Don’t you just love free software! I can recommend a lovely 3D animation package called Muvizu – totally free and offering great creative potential. I am a big fan of animation for digital storytelling and there are many software packages that allow students to create wonderful animations. Most of these packages have to be bought and this can become costly if a site licence is required for a school with…

In Praise of the Digital Camera

I have been travelling around the country and asking principals about the ICTresources they have in their schools. I am surprised at the lack of some basic technology I consider essential for every classroom. While schools are very keen to purchase interactive whiteboards few have considered more humble technologies. Most schools have a digital camera and I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that most keep them locked in…
