Podcast#5 – Teaching and Learning with ICT
‘Teachers on the ground discuss the challenges’
In this podcast Clifford Brown talks to second level teacher John Hegarty, primary teacher Anne Dempsey and teaching principal Joe McDonald, about a wide range of issues relating to the challenges they face in their respective schools in increasing the use of ICT in the classroom. The discussion covers issues around the role and duties of the ICT coordinating teacher, the importance of leadership, funding technology acquisition, the use of interactive whiteboards and motivating teachers to use ICT in their teaching. Listeners will find the problems and solutions discussed should mirror their own situations.

Interested to hear more about the social networking site ann is using. Couldn’t quite make out the name from the cast
Simon, the social networking site Anne spoke about was imbee (www.imbee.com), a free social networking tool designed for children, teachers and parents. AFAIN four schools in the Digital Hub have been exploring its educational potential for a year or so now. Only problem is it’s blocked on the schools broadband network (A special case had to be put so that these four schools gained access).
